The Trauma Program at The Koch Center is an innovative program that was developed based on the most current brain-based research being conducted by pioneers in the trauma field, including most notably Bessel van der Kolk, MD. Dr. van der Kolk’s research cites that the most effective trauma treatment integrates neuroscience and body-based therapies. New research shows that the memory of trauma is encoded in the body and that this demands a radical shift in therapeutic approaches. Treatment must involve helping people to deal with hyperarousal, to regulate their emotions, and to become reacquainted with their body and feelings.
The Koch Center’s Trauma Program is a one-night per week group-based outpatient program that incorporates mindfulness, body-focused therapies, Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills (DBT), and Seeking Safety Trauma Protocol.
6:00pm – 7:30pm DBT Skills Group
7:30pm – 8:45pm Seeking Safety Trauma Group
8:45pm – 9:00pm Body-Focused Therapies
Patients in our Trauma Program may continue with their outside individual therapists and other professionals. This program is beneficial for patients who are dealing with trauma or PTSD and need added support throughout the week.
